How your Club can get involved

As a charity MedicAlert highly values the support of Lions Clubs in raising awareness of its life-saving service within the local community, amongst GPs, emergency service personnel and those with medical conditions who might benefit from Membership. Lions also help by providing sponsored Membership for people who would not normally be able to afford the service.

Lions Clubs can be directly involved with MedicAlert in the following ways:

Raise funds to provide sponsored Memberships for people on limited incomes

MedicAlert’s aim is to provide Membership to everyone who might benefit from its life-saving service, and around ten percent of Members receive some level of funding. Lions Clubs can provide funding through the general Lions fund or nominate and pay for specific individuals in the community. Just £40 covers the initial Membership fee and Emblem.

Help MedicAlert spread the word in the community

You could deliver a short talk to local community groups about MedicAlert, such as a local patient support group, a branch of the Women’s Institute or Age Concern. MedicAlert can support any talk you might give by providing a power-point presentation, notes and flyers and talking through the main points to cover. You could also encourage GP surgeries, hospital clinics and community centres to display posters and distribute leaflets. Call us to order posters and flyers.

Get involved in ‘Green to be Seen’

MedicAlert can provide a bright green wristband which can be worn by children at large events. The wristband, which must be distributed with a promotional flyer, is designed to give parents, guardians, teachers or carers the ability to write their contact number on the reverse of the band. Should the child become lost, unconscious or disoriented or unable to communicate, the MedicAlert ‘Green to be Seen’ wristband will provide the necessary information to help reunite the child with their carer.

Support MedicAlert’s education programme

In order to ensure the MedicAlert service runs effectively a crucial aspect of our work it our on-going education programme, reminding emergency professionals to check for medical identification in an emergency. This message can never be reinforced enough. If your club has contacts with the emergency services in your area, we can provide you with a Powerpoint presentation, education posters and handouts specifically for emergency personnel. These are designed to ensure that paramedics, doctors, nurses, police, first-aiders and many more are completely up to date and aware of the MedicAlert system. After all, MedicAlert Emblems help them in emergencies too.
