Southport - 24th to 26th April 2009

A welcome from the Mayor of Sefton, Councillor Paul Tweed

Dear Delegates,

It gives me much pleasure to welcome to Sefton all those taking part in the Lions National Convention here in Southport. I would like to take this opportunity to send a short message of encouragement to everyone taking part.

The Lions are well known for their charitable work throughout the land but what is not so appreciated is the amount of effort and talent that goes into fundraising and event management. May I on behalf of the people of Sefton, at least, thank you all for your sterling efforts.

And of course one must not forget that events such as the National Convention do not happen without a great deal of organisation and hard work performed by many behind the scenes. My congratulations to them for what I am sure will be a memorable Convention for all.

I was delighted to hear that the Annual Conference was to be staged here in Southport. The town has many things of interest to offer the visitor and I hope that, if your time here permits, you will enjoy some of the facilities we can offer.

I wish you all the very best of luck and send my best wishes for an enjoyable and successful event.

Councillor Paul Tweed
