Helen Keller Internet Lions Club

The Lions of Great Britain and Ireland are harnessing the power of the Internet to open up membership to people who might not otherwise be able to be part of this superb international association.

The Helen Keller Internet Lions Club, a new concept in community service, aimed at members of the community to whom a traditional Club, meeting twice monthly and running events needing a physical presence, is not a viable option, Lions are reaching out to an enormous range of people who will now be able to enjoy the many benefits of membership.

The new Lions Club is different from every other Club; members will not have to physically attend meetings, but they will pay the same membership dues as every other Lion, so will have equal standing with every Lion throughout the world.

We want everyone to be on an equal footing - to play on a level playing field - and an Internet Lions Club is the key for everybody to be enabled to serve their communities and mankind. We want people who want to help society to be able to, and also to feel custodians of our society.

This new-style Lions Club will meet twice a month on Tuesday evenings between 8.30 and 9.30, a crisp hour over a planned agenda. The thing is, it will meet on-line….all decisions will be made by members during their on-line participation

The aim is to attract members from all walks of life. Indeed we already do have members who are not blessed with mobility, members who have

hearing and sight difficulties as well as professionals who don’t have the time to attend regular meetings.

Our guiding principle is: ‘Why shouldn’t people with different abilities have the chance to belong to the world’s largest and best service organisation?”

The humanitarian support potential is enormous, although personal commitment to the Club’s activities will be at the level any individual feels able to commit to. (And a ‘plus’ is that the networking potential is great!)

Doctor Paul Whittaker, OBE, Artistic Director of‘Music and the Deaf’, says: “The idea of an on-line Club is excellent. Such a Club will be accessible to many new people, of all ages and walks of life. Let’s go for it!”

The initial fee, for new to Lions' members, is £25, to cover the charter joining fee and dues to 30.6.08. The monthly dues figure has been set at £4, this equates to £48 per annum.
