Lion Hilary arrives at Hayling Island
Encouraged and supported by Lions Clubs throughout the British Isles and Ireland Hilary Lister, a quadriplegic, is sailing around the British Isles. On Friday she left Brighton and sailed through the night to reach the safe-haven of Spark's Marina on Hayling Island at around 7:00am on Saturday morning (21st June).
She was towed in for the last 6 miles owing to some rivets on the boom coming adrift. Tired but extremely happy after her ordeal Hilary was welcomed by members of her own team. Lions’ members from Chichester and Southbourne Lions Clubs met her on the quayside at 10:00am to welcome her and talk about her journey, they were surprised at the small size of the boat. After discussion and a photo session the Chichester Lions took a member of the team to stock up on their provisions – donated by the Club. Hilary is guiding and controlling her boat by blowing and sucking through three straws - this venture is her dream come true and she is a truly brave lady to undertake such a project. On Sunday she will be sailing away to Lymington on the next stage of her voyage. The first picture shows Chichester Lions, Tony, Noel, Richard and Corina with Hilary and members of her team on her arrival in Hayling Island; the second Lion Hilary arriving at Hayling Island.
