Lions raise the stakes on wooden horses
0ne hundred and thirty Lions and friends squeezed into Marston Green Village Hall for a Horse Race Night with a difference.
Lions Clubs from Sutton Coldfield, Castle Bromwich, Erdington, Exhibition, Marston Green and Balsall Common came together and helped to make the race night with a difference a huge success.
Lion Brian Hornsbysaid “the horses were a bit wooden and the course was rather short, but that did not stop the fun, the jockeys were real enough, even if they were perhaps a pound or two over weight”.
The race event raised £1400, to that donations were added from Erdington Lions of a further £500 and Castle Bromwich Lions £750. Balsall Common Lions handed over £1200 from a recent Malc Stent Night, all Lions events usuallyhave a raffle and thanks to Sutton Coldfield lions this raised a further £200.
All in all this was a great fun night as well as raising money to help a good cause The donation is going to “The Island Project” which is a project for Autistic children in the West Midlands and Warwickshire.
