Lions' roaring success for hospice
Guest of honour at the last meeting of the Ryedale Lions Club was Penny Campbell, a fundraiser for St Catherine's Hospice.
Lion President John Smith presented Penny with a cheque for £750 which was the proceeds of the highly entertaining concert starring the hilarious New Rope String Band at the Kirk Theatre in Pickering. Penny thanked the Lions for their efforts which made a small but significant contribution towards the more than £4 million that the hospice has to raise each year because it receives very little support from the government. She added that it was not often that people are so richly rewarded with laughter when they attend a fundraising event. Re-produced by kind permission of the Malton & Pickering Mercury
